Localization
localization_en.html
This document defines the project-wide requirement that controls, labels, UI text, and exported textual overlays must be localizable and robust across world languages.
Localization principles
- Visible strings should map to stable keys rather than hardcoded English text.
- Layouts must tolerate longer or shorter translations without breaking control meaning.
- Left-to-right and right-to-left language support must be planned intentionally.
- Exported text quality requirements apply to all scripts, not only Latin scripts.
Illustrative string-key table
| Key | English example | Purpose |
|---|
download | Download | Generic export action |
export_png | Export PNG | Format-specific export |
show_qr | Show QR | Toggle QR layer visibility |
thumbnail_mode_url_art | URL Art | Text-art thumbnail mode label |
Localization-specific failures
- Hardcoded English strings in production control surfaces are a maintainability failure.
- Layout that only works for English-length labels is incomplete.
- Blurry or broken non-Latin export text at 8K violates the same quality rules that protect English output.
